Governor Crist Signs the “Don Davis Entertainment Industry Economic Development Act"

5/3/2007

Governor Charlie Crist today signed House Bill 1325 – The Don Davis Entertainment Industry Economic Development Act – on the floor of the Florida House of Representatives. This legislation will increase incentives to the film and entertainment industry by providing a cash refund for qualified expenditures in the state during production.

“I applaud the Florida House and Senate for taking an important first step towards protecting Florida’s important film and entertainment industry,” stated Governor Crist. “Florida is competing with other states that are offering increased incentives that are actively luring this high-wage, high-value industry elsewhere.”

The legislation recognizes the importance of the film and entertainment industry to Florida’s economy by building on the previous incentive program and, for the first time, allowing participation by the fast-growing digital media industry, the commercial and music video industry and Florida’s own filmmakers. It will also help to fulfill the long-range goal of recruiting more production activity to Florida and encourage out-of-state film companies to relocate to the state.

Governor Crist was joined for the signing ceremony by House Speaker Marco Rubio (R-Miami), Representative David Rivera (R-Miami), Representative Dick Kravitz (R-Jacksonville) and bill sponsors Representative Don Davis (R-Jacksonville) and Senator Burt Saunders (R-Naples).
