Stuart Gordon to Appear at Film Festival Opening Night Party
3/10/2004
(Re-Animator, Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, King of the Ants)
Pensacola, Fla.- Stuart Gordon will be special guest at the Opening Night Party for the Pensacola Bay International Film & Television Festival at 6:30 p.m. on Thurs., March 18 at The Breeze Cinema 8 in Gulf Breeze. Gordon will be on hand to introduce his latest film, King of the Ants. The Opening Night Party features a reception, followed by the screening of seven other award-winning films, and a party. Other celebrities scheduled to appear are Broken Lizard, a five-man NY and LA based comedy group that produced Super Troopers, Puddle Cruiser, and the newly released Club Dread.
Stuart Gordon began his career as film director in 1985 with the horror movie Re-Animator, for which he won the Critics Award at the Cannes Film Festival. Famous for his supernatural horror classics, King of the Ants is Gordon’s first real-world, neo-noir thriller, intentionally skeletal and bloody.
It may come as a surprise that in contrast to his seemingly dark side, Gordon also co-wrote the Disney hit Honey, I Shrunk the Kids (1989) and eventually served as executive producer for the popular film’s sequel, Honey, I Blew Up the Kid (1992). His horror tales, however, remain his most enduring creations.
King of the Ants is a gruesome foray into the dark side of human nature. It is a brutal revenge story, written by acclaimed British author Charlie Higson, and realized with a minimal budget (Gordon’s wife provided catering for cast and crew). Sean (Chris McKenna) is hired by Ray (Daniel Baldwin) to follow and murder an accountant. However, when Ray refuses to pay for the job, Sean starts blackmailing Ray for the money. Instead of being paid, Sean is taken to a remote location and beaten until he finally snaps. This is one of the movies that make you cringe and laugh at the same time. Not for the faint of heart!
The Pensacola Bay International Film & Television Festival features four days of parties, films, film celebrities, symposiums, and awards. Tickets for the Opening Night Party are $20. General admission tickets for films are $7, 10-ticket movie-madness packages are $50, and all-access passes are $150.
