Big Cypress Gallery Featuring “Living Waters: Aquatic Presesrves of Florida”
7/15/2004
The annual Labor Day weekend Swamp Walk in Big Cypress Gallery with Clyde Butcher kicks off on Saturday morning (September 4th) and continues through Monday (the 6th). The highlight feature this year includes the “Living Waters: Aquatic Preserves of Florida” theme. View the exhibit of Clyde Butcher’s black and white images of the preserves in Florida. Experience a preview of the Living Waters film documentary and listen to the “behind the scenes” antidotes of making the film with cinematographer/director Elam Stoltzfus, listen to the original music for the soundtrack and workshop by Sammy Tedder.
Swamp walk guides will be leading you into the wilds of Florida located behind the Big Cypress Gallery. The walks will last about one hour, however plan on two hours from start to clean up. This year there will be three different moderate wet walks; the deepest you will get is thigh high. These walks are nice and moderate for everybody to learn and enjoy their surroundings. There will be three different paths, each walk will be as tranquil and beautiful as the others. We have volunteers this summer clearing the paths. For Swamp Walks all three days September 4-6, you must make reservations by going on www.ClydeButcher.com or calling 888-999-9113, the walks are $20 each and all of the proceeds will be donated to Friends of the Big Cypress. Several environmental groups will be present during the weekend. This is a great opportunity to interact with folks who are knowledgeable of Florida’s ecosystem such as The Conservancy, Friends of the Fakahatchee, Florida Trail, and more.
There will be a food & drink concession stand on location. Come and join us to celebrate our natural heritage of Florida’s aquatic preserves in the swamp and build relationships with people who have a passion to experience the great outdoors.
