Governor Announces First Motion Picture to Qualify for Financial Incentive
7/19/2004
Sea Side Films Florida will invest an estimated $14 million during filming in Florida. Approximately $7 million of that will be used to employ Floridians.
“Florida is committed to strengthening its role as a leader in the film and entertainment industry,” said Governor Bush. “Every time Florida hosts a motion picture or television production, we create high-wage jobs for Florida residents and pump millions of dollars into the local economy. Incentives such as this one strengthen our workforce and attract other members of the film industry to the state.”
The funds are available on a first come, first serve basis to qualified film and entertainment projects that spend at least $850,000 on Florida labor and Florida-based production service and equipment companies. The fund will reimburse filmmakers 15 percent on qualified Florida expenditures with a maximum of $2 million on motion pictures, $450,000 on television movies and pilots, $150,000 for individual television episodes, $25,000 for commercials and music videos, and $15,000 for industrial and educational films. Digital media companies are also eligible for reimbursement on qualified Florida expenditures on 5 percent of their annual gross revenues with a maximum reimbursement of $100,000. Companies that relocate to the state are eligible for reimbursement on 5 percent of their annual gross revenues with a maximum of $200,000.
The Transporter 2 will be directed by Louis Leterrier and Cory Yuen, produced by Luc Besson, Steven Chasman and Terry Miller and will feature Jason Statham, Amber Valetta, and Matthew Modine.
