New York Company Shoots a ‘Lucky’ Tale in Palm Beach County
7/23/2004
New York-based film production company, Siren Films chose Palm Beach County for Lucky, one of two inaugural projects for the new company. Sondra Wymar, Siren Films’ Producer, states, “Florida is a character in the film offering the diverse scenery and feeling that we were looking for, we wouldn’t have shot it anywhere else.” Palm Beach County will receive a great deal of exposure as plans for distribution of the film include entering film festivals and pursuing broadcast distribution.
The film is a poignant, highly entertaining short comedy exploring how a simple misunderstanding over a can of tuna escalates into a crisis. Staring Lee Wallace (Batman, Private Benjamin) and Marilyn Chris (One Life to Live), Lucky is a love story celebrating the type of love that grows from 42 years of marriage. Ruth and Harry are an elderly couple that live a blissful life until Harry mistakenly brings home the wrong kind of tuna. The crisis that ensues reminds them how lucky it is to be in love.
The shoot locations for the film include Albertson’s supermarket in Boca Raton and at a condominium in Floral Lakes, a Delray Beach community. The film happens to be shooting close to the home of Commissioner Burt Aaronson, who highly supports the film and television industry in Palm Beach County and is Founder and Chair of the Palm Beach International Film Festival, which is going into its tenth successful year. Each year, proceeds from the Festival are donated to local education. Commissioner Aaronson is excited about the film, saying, “It is a compliment to our local community to have filmmakers from all over choosing Palm Beach County for their projects.”
